2011/12 ARPAC Chairman
On Sunday, June 3rd, the Arkansas REALTORS® Political Action Committee hosted a meet and greet reception for Congressman Tim Griffin at the home of Ted and Julie Mullenix in Hot Springs.
The Congressman spoke frankly about the challenges facing the 112th session of Congress and reaffirmed his commitment to maintain the mortgage interest deduction. He communicated an understanding that our industry can be adversely affected by regulations and impediments that are put in the way of private property rights and the real estate industry. He also warned of the consequences if our leaders continue to ignore spending issues that deepen the national debt. The Congressman puts his faith in those who work in the private sector rather than those who contrive complicated services that bear a high cost but have questionable regulations. He perceives this as a threat to freedom in the market place. He encouraged all to participate in the electoral process.
The Congressman’s mother, Lavonia Griffin, and his mother-in-law, Ramona Crain, who has a Century 21 office in Camden also attended and assured us the Congressman gets the real estate gospel from home as well as from ARA.
Several leaders of our State Delegation also attended: Senator Eddie Joe Williams, who is running for office in the new 29th District, and his wife Delona attended, as did District 30 Senator Gilbert Baker and his wife Susan; Senator Bill Sample, a candidate for the new 14th District, and his wife Betty Ann also attended. Representative Bruce Westerman who is running for new District 22 seat was there as well. Their service to our state and the sacrifices they and their family make was recognized. It became obvious that these state legislators are aware of issues that are important to our industry and the need for the United States to remain an owner-nation and not a renter-nation.
Comments from Congress Griffin, the State Delegation and REALTORS® were consistent in high praise the hosts, Julie and Ted. The picturesque setting overlooking beautiful Lake Hamilton provided the perfect setting. Over 75 REALTORS® and spouses gave high praise to the elected officials as well as to Amy Hair, Government Affairs Director, and Miki Bass for their work in planning a successful event.
